Protruding ears is an inborn ear outline abnormality, commonly perceived as the result of incomplete development of ear outline during embryo period or the growth of the soft ear bones. These 2 abnormalities can exist independently, but can exist concurrently as well. Protruding ears on both sides are more common, but there is a difference in the extent of abnormality. These abnormality can have recurrence in the family members.
Correction operation for protruding ears do not cause serious wound, normally all those who want to enhance ear shape can undergo this operation. to maintain healthy development for the mentality of the children, it’s suggested to conduct the operation when the child is 5-6 years old, meanwhile, the ear shape difference between abnormal child and adult is only measured in mm, the operation does not have a negative effect on the growing, the enhancement operation on both sides should be conducted in a single operation.
cup-shaped ears
A cup-shaped ear 1/3 above the ear outline is an inborn abnormality, clinical symptom is the shrinking of ear outline~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ accompanied by protruding ear outline, the serious case is the diminishing of ear outline, the amorphous ear shape or tube-shaped ear outline, it’s called ~~~~~.
The operation is an effective method of correcting the abnormality. It can be conducted during 6 years old. The operation is to increase the length of the ear outline, to correct the cranked ear outline. It can also incorporate the methods of correcting protruding ears if condition permits, the result is satisfactory.
Hidden ears
Hidden ear is an inborn ear abnormality,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~the skin in front of the ear outline is joint together with the scalp, no groove in between the skull and ear, other than this, this abnormality often combines with other abnormality.
Because of the lack of the groove, it’s inconvenient for the patients. Except that they can’t wear spectacles , water is easily channeled to the outer ear parts. Therefore, the operation not only improves the appearance, but can also solve functional disabilities.
The operation method is to dissect the soft ear bone out of the scalp in which it is buried in, and to establish a firm ear groove, it can be further categorized into skin-planting and partial skin-parting method.
